British columbians from around the province
are voicing their support for alkaline hydrolysis!
Here is a small sampling of comments submitted on the petitions (initials used for privacy)
A.G. - Brentwood Bay - Please help us with the first step and provide us the facts and reservations preventing it from alkaline hydrolysis from being legal. Much appreciation
G.B. - Burnaby - I would really like to have this option. As an avid outdoor girl, it seems fitting to have a process that is the most environmentally protective. Thank you and with Gratitude
A.G. - Chase - I have long been aware of the huge waste of energy through the use of crematoriums. This seems a much better solution.
M.R. - Cumberland - Long overdue. Such a better choice for our environment and ourselves. Please be the change
T.R. - Delta - This is so badly needed in BC. As we are supposed to be moving towards green innovation, this is badly needed.
G.M. - Duncan - We are in a climate emergency. We must take immediate action. This is one simple step: to amend legislation and allow AH in BC. I see no reason not to do this, as it merely gives people a choice. It is not forcing change on people. I would choose AH because, while I am living I am doing all I can to lower GHGs, for the sake of my children, grandchildren and future generations. When I die, I do not want my body to be part of the problem. Solutions only!
E.L. - Galiano Island - Please act on this request. It is very important. Thank you.
G.R. - Kamloops - This is such a simple way to reduce GHGs that it should be a no-brainer. People who don't like the process will still have the choice of more traditional burial methods, but why not give folks like me the option to reduce our final emissions?
K.P. - Kaslo - This is a definite concern and desire of mine! I hope you will let me know of any good reason this isn't being seriously considered to have available in BC?
L.D. - Kimberley - The climate change crisis makes the legalization of the is process imperative. Please legalize alkaline hydrolysis immediately.
M.S. - Lantzville - It is past time to up-date funeral options in B.C.
J.W. - Mill Bay - There is ample evidence for the safety and sustainability of this process. Let's get this done and join the leadership of other jurisdictions. Thank you for considering my freedom to choose.
F.D. - Nanaimo - Please give me this choice to make my final act a contribution to climate amelioration on behalf of future generations.
J.M. - North Vancouver - This sounds like an environmentally sound option and should not need more time for a decision.
E.B. - North Vancouver - The time is looooooong overdue for British Columbians to have access to death services that do not harm the earth ... and are cost prohibitive in a heart-breaking time
C. O. - Prince George - This is a must option for all British Columbians.
R.P. - Saanich - All the legwork has been done. New Legislation is not required. Just add the words. Alkaline Hydrolysis or Aquamation to the present act.
J.B. - Salmon Arm - It's time to provide low-carbon options for end-of-life decisions!
B.M. - Sorrento – Climate Action!!!!
D.F. - Thetis Island - It’s a no brainer. This should Simply become a part of our Climate Action policies.
C.O. - Vancouver - If any other industry brought forward a way to lower their collective emissions by more than 90%, politicians would act quickly. Please don't force us to re-invent the wheel. This matters...because EVERYONE in BC will die, and currently 90%+ choose flame-based cremation when they do. Please: for the future of the province, the country, and the planet, allow this green option.
L.S. - Vancouver - I urge the province to allow aquamation, [ alkaline hydrolysis] as an alternative burial and fire cremation.
T.L. - Vancouver - Before his passing, my father-in law chose aquamation over cremation (in Saskatchewan.) And we educated ourselves to best understand and honour his decision. In doing so, we decided that given the option, we too would choose this option over traditional cremation - as a way to have as small an environmentally damaging footprint as possible.
V.L. - Vernon - This is such an easy way to ensure we are using an environmental lens for EVERYTHING...get this passed now!
J.J. - Victoria - Please hurry along with this way of cremation. I’m sorry it was not included in your Clean B.C.
L.T. - Victoria - This is a “no brainer”. We hope you will put this on your calendar for approval for the sake of our future. Thank you
G.U. - Victoria - Now is the time for action. Make water-based cremation (aquamation or Alkaline Hydrolysis) legal in BC.
R.B. - Victoria - Allowing for environmentally friendly options for care for the bodies of the deceased is practical and necessary. We need to be pursuing end of life care with the same concern for the environment as we do all other aspects of our lives.
J.G. - White Rock - Alternative methods that are more environmentally friendly need to be made an option to BC residents. Your action to bring this to be needs to happen now. Thank you.
